This is a thinner, more hearty waffle than Belgian Waffles. I like them darker, others may like them lighter. You can top them with fruit and whipped cream, syrup, or just eat them plain on-the-run! This recipe makes about 4 whole waffles.
1-1/3 cups flour
1/2 cup regular rolled oats
3 Tbl. sugar
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1-1/4 cups whole milk
1 egg
2 Tbl. butter, melted
1/4 cup oil
Whisk together dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together wet ingredients. Combine bowls and stir with spoon or spatula. Set aside for one hour, allowing oats to soak. Heat waffle iron on high and grease before spreading about 2/3 cup of mixture to cook.
